Pakistan has been grappling with one of the deadliest monsoons in recent years with over 650 people being killed in rain-related incidents since June 26, according to local newspaper Dawn.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has voiced sorrow over the mounting human toll from the recent flash floods in Pakistan. In a statement issued by his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric on Sunday, Guterres extended condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with all those affected. “The UN Country Teams are at the disposal of the Governments to provide necessary assistance,” the statement read, according to PTI.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed ongoing rescue efforts, supported by military helicopters, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed federal ministers to personally oversee relief work in the flood-hit province.
