Multiple landslides have blocked vital transport routes, hindering the relief work in the affected states. Security forces comprising of paramilitary troops, state forces as well as the Army, have been deployed in carrying out the relief operations and required medical support in the affected states.
The flash floods, followed by an alarming rise in the water levels in the Nagavalli and the Kalyani rivers inundated vast areas, causing extensive damage to bridges and snapping road and railway connectivity in several areas, the officials said.
In Himachal, the torrential rain has caused major damage. A cloudburst wrecked havoc in Dharampur area of Mandi district, 250 km from Shimla, this morning, inundating vast areas, washing away vehicles and perishing several heads of cattle.
