Country music star Carrie Underwood and disco legends Village People will perform at events marking US President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.
Carrie Underwood, known for hits like “Jesus Take the Wheel” and “Before He Cheats”, will perform “America the Beautiful” during the inauguration ceremony.
“I love our country and am honoured to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be part of this historic event,” Underwood said in a statement to AP.
The ceremony will take place on the steps of the US Capitol in Washington DC, Vice President-elect JD Vance will first take his oath of office, administered by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Underwood will then perform alongside the Armed Forces Chorus and the Naval Academy Glee Club.
Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the presidential oath to Donald Trump. The event will conclude with a performance of the US National Anthem by opera singer Christopher Macchio.
The Village People, known for disco anthems like “Y.M.C.A.” and “Macho Man,” are set to perform at multiple inaugural events, including a rally on January 19 and the Liberty Inaugural Ball.
The band said on social media, “We believe music brings people together, regardless of politics.”
Their songs were staples at Trump’s campaign rallies, and their performance is expected to draw a lively crowd.
In the days leading up to the inauguration, Trump’s schedule includes a fireworks show at his golf club in Sterling, Virginia, and a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
On January 19, Trump will host a “MAGA Victory Rally” at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, where the Village People will perform.
The inaugural parade on Pennsylvania Avenue will feature 7,500 participants, including veterans, first responders, and school marching bands.
The celebrations will also include three official inaugural balls, with themes honouring military service, Trump supporters, and high-dollar donors.
The ceremony will feature an invocation by Franklin Graham, son of the late Billy Graham, and a benediction from New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
Lee Greenwood, known for his patriotic anthem “God Bless the USA” will perform as Trump walks out to take the oath.
Trump’s return to the presidency comes after his refusal to attend President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021. This time, Biden is expected to attend Trump’s swearing-in, a move aimed at showcasing unity.
Trump’s inaugural committee, led by Steve Witkoff and Kelly Loeffler, described the events as a reflection of his “America First” agenda.
“The celebrations will highlight President-elect Trump’s historic return to the White House,” they said in a joint statement.
