Telangana Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The state of Telangana concluded their 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Monday, May 13, as all its 17 Lok Sabha seats were under polling in phase 4. Telangana became the only state so far which recorded a higher voter turnout in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with 64.93 per cent, in comparison to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where Telangana recorded the final voter turnout percentage of 62.77 per cent, despite having a lower voter turnout than the national average of 67.25 per cent, during phase 4.
Telangana, after being separated from Andhra Pradesh in 2014, through the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, following the Telangana movement, quickly rose to national significance very quickly. The state, which was usually a stronghold for Congress, saw a major turnaround after the formation of BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) under the leadership of K Chandrashekhar Rao. BRS, which was earlier named TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi), made the name change in 2022, keeping the 2024 General Elections in mind. INC, who suffered a downfall during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections in Telangana, is expected to make a turnaround in 2024, citing their strong show during the 2023 state assembly elections.
The 18th Lok Sabha elections for the state of Telangana will be held on May 13.
Phase 4: Date of polling- May 13
The General Elections in Telangana are usually contested in a single phase, and given the small number of seats, ECI has once again decided to follow the one-phase model for the youngest state of India.
Telangana ranks 13th in the list of states with the most number of Lok Sabha seats with a total of 17 Lok Sabha seats in their account, out of which three seats are reserved for SC candidates, while two seats are reserved for ST candidates. During the 2019 elections, BRS (TRS at that time) came out as the biggest party after winning nine seats, while BJP came second with four seats, pushing the INC to number three with three seats. AIMIM were also able to secure one seat for themselves.
