The much-anticipated World Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan on Saturday saw a hurried change of clothes by former skipper Virat Kohli in the middle of the match. Kohli, who made 16 runs on 18 balls, had to leave the pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad after he realised that his jersey was not the same as that of his teammates.

The 34-year-old batsman then quickly left the field and returned in a new jersey. Kohli had initially worn a jersey that had white stripes across the shoulders instead of tricolour stripes like the rest of the Indian team.

Cricket enthusiast Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra), who runs a popular cricket account on X, shared a still from the match that shows Kohli pointing to his white stripes in confusion. While sharing this photo, Vohra wrote, “Virat Kohli by mistake comes on the field by wearing the white stripes jersey instead of the tricolour one.”

Netizens reacted to this small misstep with humour and understanding. Commenting on Vohra’s post, an X user wrote, “The wrong color on your shoulders doesn’t matter when you have entire nations’ hope on your shoulders!”. Another person wrote, “First I thought he’s asking people to chant “india india” then I noticed stripes ”.

India won Saturday’s match by seven wickets, thanks to the stellar performance of the bowlers who took 10 wickets as Pakistan managed to make 191 runs.
