Finding a snake lurking in the corner of one’s house can be scary. But many snake catchers are able to calmly remove snakes from residential areas and put them back in their natural habitat.
Now one such video of a young snake catcher is raking in likes online. The video shows Shweta Sutar, from Maharashtra, handling a long snake with her bare hands. The snake is a harmless rat snake, but it is bigger than her height. She calmly puts the snake in a restraint tube, a device used to capture snakes before they are released.
Her video has got over 12,000 likes. An Instagram user commented, “The snake seems to be so scared of you… what are you, a snake goddess ?? 😂😂”. Another user wrote, “Omg! How are you even holding that thing in your hand. My soul would have left my body. I wouldn’t make it past just looking at that snake”.
In September 2020, a video of Nirzara Chitti, a Karnataka-based snake catcher, went viral. In the 1.45-minute clip, Chitti uses her phone’s torchlight to trace the snake that is hidden inside a room. Moments later, she grabs the reptile by its tail and takes it outside.
In December 2019, a woman named Vidya Raju was seen catching a python that reportedly weighed 20kg. The video was taken in a residential complex in Ernakulam, Kerala. Raju, who was visibly unafraid of the snake, showed great skill in capturing the python and bagging it.
The video went viral after it was shared on Twitter by Harinder S Sikka, author of Calling Sehmat, on which the film Raazi was based.
