Just before the match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore commenced, star cricketer Virat Kohli took a moment to meet his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma.
Kohli sought Sharma’s blessings by touching his feet. On Saturday, the official Twitter account of the Indian Premier League (IPL) shared a clip of this moment and wrote, “A wholesome meet & greet @imVkohli catches up with his childhood coach #TATAIPL | #DCvRCB | @RCBTweets”.
This video has so far gathered over 14,000 likes. Commenting on it, a Twitter user wrote, “Virat Kohli respect button never ever forget your past teacher this is the best example the way he touched the feet of his coach ”. Another person observed, “Guy literally removed the glove to respect his childhood coach how can’t you be an inspiration ”.
Rajkumar Sharma has been Kohli’s coach since the former skipper was 10 years old. In 2016, Sharma was conferred with the Dronacharya Award for Outstanding Coaches in Sports and Games.
In the 2016 book Driven: The Virat Kohli Story, which documents the player’s childhood and early cricket career, author Vijay Lokapally mentions that Kohli once showed his gratitude to Sharma by gifting him a Skoda Rapid car on Teacher’s Day.
While recalling this moment in the book, Sharma told Lokapally, “It was not merely because he had gifted me the car. It was because of his emotional touch to the process of reminding me how much he treasured our association and valued the role of a teacher in his life.”
