The Indian Air Force (IAF) Saturday paid a heartfelt tribute to Wing Commander Namansh Syal, who lost his life after a Tejas Light Combat Aircraft crashed during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show on Friday.

In a statement shared on X, the IAF said it “deeply mourns the tragic loss” of the 34-year-old pilot, honouring him as a devoted officer who served the nation with “unwavering commitment, exceptional skill and an unyielding sense of duty.”

Amid nationwide mourning, a video filmed before the Dubai Air Show has surfaced on social media. Shared by Major Surendra Poonia, the viral clip shows a volunteer documenting a behind-the-scenes look at the event. As he pans the camera toward the Tejas fighter jet, Wing Commander Syal briefly appears in the frame, smiling warmly just moments before the display.

The video quickly gained traction, prompting condolences from users worldwide. “RIP, love from Pakistan,” a user wrote. “Rest in Peace soldier. You were epitome of selflessness and courage. We all owe you.. Prayers for the family,” another user commented.

“Some journeys end too soon, yet they leave a light that never fades. A warrior’s smile before the skies calls shows the courage only the brave carry within. Wing Commander Namansh Syal didn’t just fly aircraft, he lifted the nation’s pride with every mission. May his final flight be calm, his legacy eternal, and his service forever honoured. Salute to the brave soul who touched the sky so others could live in peace,” a third user reacted.

Syal is survived by his wife, who also serves in the Indian Air Force, their seven-year-old daughter, and his parents.

The Tejas fighter jet crashed at about 2.10 PM local time during an aerial display near Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport. Early footage suggests the pilot was unable to pull out of a negative-G maneuver executed at low altitude.
