A small investment of Rs 39 turned into a life-changing moment for Mangal Prasad, a young man from Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district, after he won big on a fantasy cricket app.
According to a report in India Today, Prasad’s unexpected win of Rs 4 crore sparked celebrations in his Ghasi Ram Purwa village, as neighbours and relatives flocked to congratulate him. Prasad will receive Rs 2.8 crore after a 30 per cent tax deduction, the report said.
Prasad is the son of farmer Sukhlal Saroj, and has five brothers and two sisters. He is married with three children, two sons and a daughter.
Prasad, who works at a plywood factory in Hapur and is a school dropout, created his winning team on April 29 during the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings. His victory quickly went viral on social media. He had been trying his luck on Dream11 for several months, usually participating with Rs 49. On April 29, he decided to enter a contest with just Rs 39.
In the now-viral video, Prasad said he had been hoping for a win for a long time but would often end up losing in fantasy cricket contests. He also revealed plans to invest his winnings into starting a business.
Prasad said that while the prize money has been credited, it has not yet been reflected in his bank account.

The video amassed nearly a million views as several social media users reacted to it. “I’ve never done it before, but this guy is really motivating me to try,” a user wrote. “Don’t get influenced by such exceptions and put all your hard-earned money in these betting apps. You will never be able to get out of this addiction. Before you realise you’ve lost everything, it will be too late,” another user commented.
“Money isn’t printed out of thin air. For this man to win 4Cr, several people had to have lost an amount higher than 4Cr,” a third user reacted.
