Rising water levels in flooded rivers often catch people unawares. A video of one such incident has gone viral on the internet. It shows a Tata Sumo that is purportedly on its way from Sikkim to Darjeeling, narrowly avoiding a sudden rise in the Teesta River.
The video posted by @fastestfastsikkim on Instagram shows the vehicle driving on a flooded road near the Teesta River. Fortunately, the car safely exits the swollen river by the end of the video.
One user expressed concern and wrote, “If the engine hydrolocks! Then you are done! Don’t confuse bravery with foolishness.”
Another user wrote, “Driver rocked 🔥Teesta Shocked.” Meanwhile, a third user said, “Average day of darjeeling Drivers.”
Though the video does not mention why the river water suddenly rose, last month, Sikkim had witnessed heavy rain that triggered massive landslides, resulting in six deaths and trapping thousands of tourists.

News reports mentioned how the Teesta River overflowed in Kalimpong in northern Bengal due to the rain, forcing the closure of the Kalimpong-Darjeeling Road. Even a new Bailey Bridge at Sangkalang collapsed, cutting off Mangan from Dzongu and Chungthang, reports said.
