At a time the nation is dissecting, discussing and debating work-life balance and hustle culture, Swiggy food and marketplace CEO Rohit Kapoor has gone viral for saying sacrificing health and relationships by working late into the night is unproductive.
Hustle culture glorifies working longer and harder than necessary and without any break, and often results in burnout, increased anxiety, and deteriorating physical and mental health. While some famous business personalities of the country, like Infosys‘s N R Narayana Murthy, promote “hustling” as the key to success, Kapoor’s different stance has been received well by social media users.
In a recent Instagram video shared by Shradha Sharma, CEO, Your Story, Kapoor says that working late is understandable when there is a need, but that it shouldn’t become routine. He says, “But wo jo teen baje raat ko baithte hai na wo ye nahi batate ki wo ek baje dopahar ko office ate hai,” pointing out that those who claim to work until 3 AM often omit the fact that they reach office around 1 PM. He then expresses his strong disapproval of such a culture and encourages individuals to prioritise quality time with their family and loved ones.
