Navratri, the nine-day festival that is enthusiastically celebrated in Gujarat, is marked by dandiya nights and feasts. Now, a video from Rajkot has emerged that shows a group of women doing stunts while wielding swords as they drive motorcycles and cars.
At one point, some of these women are seen standing on scooters as the others drive them. These stunts were performed for a crowd of onlookers on the third day of Navratri.
A video of these stunts was posted on X by news agency ANI. In the comments, people expressed mixed emotions. While some liked it, many others thought the video promoted reckless driving.
Commenting on the video, an X user wrote, “The balance, act, attire, smile 100 marks I just wish they took safety measures riding this bullet..”. Another person wrote, “Makes me feel proud and anxious at the same time ”.
Expressing a much harsher view, an X user wrote, “Dangerous shouldn’t promote traffic accidents”. Another person said, “Perhaps @ANI should enquire about whether these woman’s have taken license to carry a sword and permission from authorities to perform garba with sword on bike and without helmet instead of praising them.”
Earlier this week, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor shared a video of a folk dance from Kerala that looked a lot like dandiya-garba.
The video shows a group of women dressed in Kasavu sarees and dancing with each other using sticks. It appears that the clip was taken during a public procession as people are seen watching the dancers from the sidelines of the road.
