Rohit Sharma, former captain of the Indian cricket team, continues to win hearts both on and off the field. Sharma is known for his genuine nature and rarely hides behind a persona, whether it be while addressing the media or interacting with fans.

On Friday, during a practice session at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, he showed his protective nature when a young fan tried to approach him.

A video that quickly went viral shows Sharma shouting at security personnel who were trying to stop the child from getting close to him. As he packed up his kit, Sharma instructed the staff to ensure the boy should be allowed to meet him.

The gesture drew widespread admiration on social media, with fans hailing him as “people’s captain.” One user wrote, “Rohit is Rohit – the good soul! I pray that he kicks arse in Australia and scores a century or two! He deserves to say goodbye to Australia in style.” Another added, “Full on Rohit Sharma style.”

On the field, Sharma was back at his usual spot at Shivaji Park, putting in a focused session ahead of India’s ODI series in Australia. Accompanied by former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and Dhawal Kulkarni, he spent nearly two hours in the nets, facing consecutive deliveries with intensity. Nayar, a long-time mentor, oversaw his practice, while Kulkarni provided pace support to replicate match conditions.

Sharma, recently succeeded as India’s ODI captain by Shubman Gill, isn’t the only familiar face returning for the Australia tour, Virat Kohli is also set to be part of the squad. The team will play three ODIs and five T20Is against Australia starting October 19.
