Elephants are known to be sensitive beings. They are famous for displaying emotions like joy, compassion, and grief. Their emotional intelligence continues to fascinate researchers and animal lovers alike.

Now, a video of a baby elephant being rescued from a muddy pit in the forests of Chhattisgarh is winning hearts on social media.

The viral video shows the baby elephant walking up to the JCB machine and gently touching it with its trunk, showing gratitude. Sharing the video, ANI wrote, “An elephant calf shows gratitude after it was rescued from a mud pit in the forest area by the personnel of the Forest Department in Gharghoda, Raigarh.”

The video quickly gained traction, prompting heartwarming reactions. “This is true gratitude which many human have forgotten. After taking help, they forget who helped,” a user wrote. “Sometimes feel like ,animals are better than humans..Cute,” another user commented.

“Humans are the only species who don’t show gratitude and rather bite the hands that feed them,” a third user reacted.

According to an NDTV report, the incident occurred in the Lailunga-Gharghoda forest range of Raigarh district, where a herd of elephants had gathered to drink and bathe. Amid the activity, a calf accidentally slipped into a deep, muddy pit and got trapped. Unable to climb out, its distressed cries echoed through the forest, drawing the attention of nearby villagers.

Following this, the villagers alerted the forest department, and officials rushed to the scene. Using JCB machines and shovels, they carefully levelled the pit’s steep edges to create a path, allowing the stranded calf to climb out on its own.

In February, IAS officer Supriya Sahu shared an inspiring incident of bravery and compassion, highlighting the efforts of forest officials who went above and beyond to rescue a baby elephant and reunite it with its mother. In a post on X, Sahu recounted the rescue operation that took place in Pollachi, located in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district, and shared a touching moment where the baby elephant appeared to express gratitude to the forest team following its safe rescue.
