Poor road conditions often lead to fatalities and pose a danger to the lives of commuters. Several locals in the past have resorted to unique ways to protest against the authorities. In such an incident, a video showing men dressed as ‘Yamaraja’ and ‘Chitragupta’ conducting a long jump competition on a pothole-filled road in Karnataka’s Udupi has gone viral.
In a video shared by X handle @letsmakebetterplace, people dressed as ‘ghosts’ can be seen participating in the long jump competition; ‘Yamaraja’ and ‘Chitragupta’ are seen measuring how far they jumped. “Yamaraja checking road conditions in aadi Udupi !!” the handle wrote.

With over 48,000 views, the video amassed multiple reactions. A user wrote, “Freebies government has no money to look into infrastructure. Condition of state where INC govt prevails.” Another user commented, “very good attempt. But no use since the elected are busy with neglignence.”
“Corruption rampant in karnataka. These corrupt people and their families should give free sx service to all public without any money,” a third user reacted.
Last month, residents of Bengaluru’s Jayanagar performed a ‘pothole puja’ to bring attention to the poor road conditions. In the viral video, men and women can be seen conducting the puja beside a large pothole filled with rainwater. The residents also offered flowers. According to a report in TOI, residents termed the procession as “Gundi Pujan”.
