Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted India’s Women’s Cricket World Cup champions at his house on Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi on Wednesday, November 6. A video of the cheerful interaction, released Thursday morning, quickly went viral, thanks to a lighthearted moment that left everyone, including the Prime Minister, laughing.
During the meet-and-greet, cricketer Harleen Deol playfully asked PM Modi about his skincare routine, catching everyone off guard. The Prime Minister burst into laughter before replying, “Mera iss vishay par zyada dhyaan nahi gaya tha (I’ve never really paid much attention to that)”.
Joining in on the fun, all-rounder Sneha Rana chimed in, saying that the glow on Modi’s face must come from the love he receives from people across the country.
Smiling, the Prime Minister agreed, adding, “Yeh toh hai ji, bohot badi taakat hoti hai samaaj se itna pyaar milna. Sarkar mei mera 25 saal ho gaye hain, itne lambe samay mei jab aashirwaad milte hain toh prabhaav rehta hai (That’s true, there’s great strength in receiving so much love from society. I’ve been in government for 25 years now, and when you get so many blessings over such a long time, it leaves its mark).”
Clips from the meeting have since taken over social media. One user joked, “We have Modi ji answering skincare questions before GTA VI,” while another wrote, “Beauty parlor walon ki dukan band karayenge.”
India’s women’s cricket team made history on November 2, clinching their first-ever World Cup title. The victory came after two earlier heartbreaks, in the 2005 and 2017 ODI finals.
In the 2025 final at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs. After being put in to bat, India posted 299 runs, thanks to a fiery 87 from opener Shafali Verma, who replaced Pratika Rawal, and a steady 58 from Deepti Sharma. South Africa’s Ayabonga Khaka was their standout bowler, picking up 3 for 58. Despite a promising chase, South Africa fell short, bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs.
Soon after the win, PM Modi took to X to congratulate the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team, calling it “a spectacular win” that displayed “great skill and confidence”.
