Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has been quite vocal in his protest against PM Narendra Modi’s move demonetising old high-value notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 – both in and outside Parliament. In fact, a statement he made today has caught the fancy of the social media, and Netizens have had a field day trolling him.
Criticising Modi’s move – which completes a month today – Gandhi said that demonetisation of the old currency notes has benefited only a few people and has proved to be a pain for millions.

He took a dig at PayTM, which seems to be benefiting a lot since many have switched to e-wallets for regular transaction, since getting cash from ATMs and banks is proving to be extremely difficult. “Lok Sabha mein agar mujhe bolne diya jaye toh main sab bata doonga ki Paytm kaise “PAY TO MODI” hota hai (If given a chance to speak in Lok Sabha, I will reveal how PayTM becomes Pay to Modi),” he said, outside Parliament today.
A similar comment had been previously made by Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee – who has been criticising the move since the beginning as well – and who had paraphrased the company’s name as ‘Pay PM’.
After Gandhi’s comment, ‘Pay To Modi’ has been trending on Twitter and people are trolling Gandhi for his statement. “Dear Rahul Gandhi, “Pay To Modi” Is Better Than “Pay To Mummy” Who Used To Deposit The Hard Earned Money Of Poor In Swiss Accounts,” wrote a user. “(I)f paytm is Pay to Modi den we can call CongressMan as CONman,” wrote another.
He also said that it’s, in fact, a “foolish” decision. “Layoffs are happening, farmers are dying because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s financial expertise. It’s not a bold decision, it’s foolish,” he said.

Turns out, this parody of the company name had been used before as well, like these tweets from November shows.
Slamming the implementation of the demonetisation move, Opposition parties gathered wearing black bands and observed 2-minute silence for those who lost their lives as a result of it.
