Marriages in India are no less than festivals. However, two women in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow prioritised their ailing father’s wish over a big wedding ceremony. A video of two women getting married on the hospital premises in the presence of their bed-ridden father at an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and hospital staff is winning hearts online.

The viral video shows two couples exchanging vows in an unusual ‘nikah’ ceremony. Dressed in medical gowns, the couples followed the hospital protocol that only allowed four people in the ward.

Sharing the video, an X handle @TrueStoryUP wrote, “A unique marriage took place in the ICU of Era Hospital, Lucknow. Qubool echoed inside the ICU. Mohammed Iqbal is battling illness in the ICU of Era Hospital. There is little hope of his survival. In such a situation, he put forward the wish of fulfilling his daughters’ marriage in front of his eyes. Doctors allowed the Maulana who performed the Nikah and the groom to enter the ICU and got the Nikah done, the Nikah took place with simplicity and rituals in Era Hospital!”

Shared on June 15, the video won the hearts of several social media users. Reacting to it, a user commented, “Wah, great. This is Hamara Bharat. God bless to married couples and I pray to Almighty bless Mr Mohammad Iqbal to get well soon to see the cheerful life of his daughter and other remaining beautiful things of life.” Another user wrote, “The last wish of the dying person must be fulfilled.”

According to reports, the ailing man was undergoing treatment for hypertension and could not leave the hospital due to his deteriorating health. He shared his concern with the OT in charge who helped him organise the ‘nikah’ ceremony in the ICU, ensuring all necessary protocols were followed.

The ‘nikah’ ceremony only included the couples, a Muslim cleric and a few close family members.
