Consumer culture has taught us to seek happiness in possessing objects or paying to get entertained. Having or spending money is not necessarily a prerequisite for fun but, oddly enough, we need to be reminded about this every now and then. An undated video that is going viral now shows a group of children truly having a blast while making the most of what they have.
The video shows the kids tying ropes on a short trunk and running around it till they pick up momentum before briefly being suspended in the air, their joy in the act quite palpable.
Former Norwegian diplomat Erik Solheim (@ErikSolheim) shared a video of this makeshift ride and wrote, “The ability to be happy and joyful, no matter where you are, is a superpower that erodes as we get older”. This video has gathered over 1.5 million views so far.
Commenting on it, a Twitter user wrote, “Agreed! The ability to find happiness and joy in any situation is a superpower that we should cherish and cultivate throughout life. Let’s keep that inner child alive! #Happiness #JoyfulLiving”. Another person wrote, “I feel dizzy by just watching this and yeah such a beautiful childhood memories”.
A similar video, showing the creative improvisation of young kids, had gone viral in June 2020. The video showed two children playing on a makeshift see-saw that they put together using logs. The clip was recorded in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh and was tweeted by IAS officer Sher Singh Meena.
