In a proactive move towards ensuring the safety of its drivers and passengers, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced the procurement of 1,600 thermos flasks, each with a capacity of 500 ml.
The initiative aims to address the issue of driver fatigue, a major risk factor in road safety. It was revealed that accidents occurred predominantly during the night and early morning hours, specifically between 3 am and 4 am.
KSRTC believes that providing thermos flasks for carrying tea will play a pivotal role in preventing drivers from succumbing to drowsiness and thereby enhancing overall road safety.
The demanding schedules of bus drivers, especially those operating during the night, can lead to exhaustion and reduced alertness.
By providing thermos flasks for tea, the KSRTC aims to offer a simple yet effective solution to combat fatigue and enhance the drivers’ ability to stay focused on the road.
The procurement of 1,600 thermos flasks reflects KSRTC’s commitment to implementing practical measures that address the root causes of accidents. The flasks, with a capacity of 500ml, are designed to hold sufficient quantities of tea, ensuring that drivers can enjoy a refreshing beverage during their breaks, ultimately aiding in maintaining their attentiveness.
Users on X, formerly Twitter, expressed their fair share of agreements to the initiative. One user said, “Are we saying that the drivers don’t take care of themselves? If airline pilots are checked for alcohol consumption, why can’t we do the same for our transport drivers?”
The thermos flasks are expected to be distributed to KSRTC drivers in the coming weeks, and the corporation hopes that the initiative will contribute to a significant reduction in accidents during the identified high-risk hours.
Another mentioned, “Aren’t they employing two drivers in a night bus already to avert this issue?” and a third wrote, “KSRTC always is. Jai Karnataka.”
