A 26-year-old man from Kerala, now living in Bengaluru, has struck a chord on Reddit with his candid post about the complex emotions of calling the Karnataka capital home. Posting in the subreddit r/Coconaad under the title “Living in Bangalore is a love-hate situation,” the Kannur native described how four years in the city have left him torn between missing his hometown and not wanting to leave Bengaluru.
“What this city has done to me is beyond my understanding,” he wrote, admitting that Bengaluru’s quirks constantly test his patience but somehow also keep him hooked.
He shared how the city’s famously fickle weather often catches him off guard. “It’ll be so freaking sunny in the morning and you think it’s gonna stay the same. So you don’t take your umbrella and raincoat and leave for work. Literally 2 minutes later, boom. It rains like crazy and you’re standing in the middle of the traffic like an idiot, all wet.”
But whenever he returns to Kerala, he starts missing Bengaluru again. “I go back to Kerala, only to see every single person looking at you with an eye of judgement. You feel so constrained and held up by the neighbours and relatives’ criticism and bitching. Here I am, missing the freedom I had in Bangalore,” he wrote.
He also spoke of cultural differences, moments of feeling out of place, and how Bengaluru’s unique pull makes it hard for him to imagine moving elsewhere. “When you stay in Bangalore, you wanna go home. The moment you touch Kerala, you miss Bangalore like crazy.”

The post resonated with many, drawing in others to share their own Bengaluru dilemmas.
One user praised the city for its professional opportunities: “Bangalore is pretty good in terms of opportunities especially in IT. So in that regard it has been good to me. Weather is amazing here. It is mostly cold… Lot of different types of folks are here. I have met a few interesting people in Bangalore.”
Another user, also from Kannur, said he once loved living in Bengaluru but has no plans to move back: “I don’t miss the traffic, the pollution, the noise, the exchange rent. Though I have to say that the freedom and better weather is definitely something I miss. That and the fact that most of my closest friends live there.”
For some, Bengaluru has even spoiled their tolerance for heat. One person wrote: “Started living here two years ago and now I can’t tolerate any weather above 25 degrees. Going back home feels like I got trapped in an oven.”
A fourth individual said, “Hate the weather. love the places. hate most people. absolutely adore some people to death. hate the hiked up prices at restaurants. love the variety of food. So yeah. very relatable lmao.”
