
The holy city of Varanasi is known for its exciting streetfood landscape. Most recently, Hiroshi Suzuki, who is currently serving as the ambassador of Japan to India and Bhutan, had a chance to relish some of the most popular street food options in the city. The diplomat enjoyed snacks like golgappa and aalu chaat, followed by a wholesome meal of Banarasi Thali.
Suzuki shared a video of him enjoying chaat on Saturday and wrote, “I really wanted to eat golgappe since I saw PM Modi @narendramodi and PM Kishida @kishida230 eating them together!”.
Suzuki was referring to a meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March. During their meeting at the Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi, the world leaders were seen enjoying aam panna, golgappas, fried idlis, and a cup of chai.
In another tweet, Suzuki who that he also enjoyed a “pure Banarasi Thali, after seeing mystic Night Aarti” at Varanasi and thanked the locals for their hospitality.
Commenting on Suzuki’s tweet, a Twitter user wrote, “I am happy to see that you are exploring Indian culture, food and a lot Indo-Japan relationship is unstoppable.” Another person said, “Hope you enjoyed Ambassador! We enjoy Japanese food too, we love Katsu curry, Gyoza, Tori Kareage, Donburi bowls. So many flavours in Japanese food!”.
