Mumbai’s local trains are commonly known as the lifeline of the maximum city. The rail network is used by thousands of passengers every day to commute across the city. However, over the years, the existing number of local trains has fallen short for the city’s booming population.
Frequently, videos showing overcrowding and improper crowd management within the local trains crop up on social media. One such video has once again surfaced on Reddit.
On Sunday, the video posted on the subreddit r/Damnthatsinteresting showed a group of people prying open the doors of a Mumbai local train coach in a desperate attempt to board it.
It is unclear if the train’s doors open automatically or if people are just impatient to wait for them to open. It is also not clear if the doors were jammed and were being forced open as there was a deluge of passengers.

Commenting on this video, a Reddit user wrote, “How is it possible to do that everyday? I feel anxious just watching it”.
Another person wrote, “You’re looking at a bunch of people who can’t afford their own transportation struggle to get into public transport, stand for hours in inhumane crowding, reach work and do all of this hours in advance every day so they don’t get late. Damn that’s sad.”
In November last year, a similar video about the doors of a Mumbai local train had gone viral. The clip showed the coaches of the Mumbai local train jam-packed with commuters.
A police officer could be seen urging a few passengers to get out of the train for the automatic doors to close. Despite the police officers’ efforts, the doors remain open as passengers stand close to them.
