With over 2,30,000 views on X, the video sparked outrage as social media users condemned the act. Reacting to it, a user commented, “How is this person roaming around with a pistol despite the code of conduct being in force and openly hitting a person with a pistol in public? Should legal action be taken against this person for carrying a weapon during elections?” Another user wrote, “In Baba’s rule, hooliganism is happening openly, whoever it is, his arms license should be cancelled, if it is found to be illegal then strict action should be taken against him.”
The incident soon got a political colour as the Congress slammed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after the incident came to light.
Soon after the video went viral, Lucknow police arrested Mishra and a case was registered against him at the Vibhuti Khand police station under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 151 (breach of peace) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
