Chaos erupted on a public street in Bengaluru on July 9 as a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus burst into flames. The viral video was shared by @thebangalore360 on Instagram with the caption, “A #BMTC bus (route 144E) caught fire at Anil Kumble Circle on M G Road around 9 am. #Fire was first noticed in the engine. All the passengers including driver and conductor disembarked, no casualties.”
BMTC sources revealed that when the driver started the engine on M G Road, it overheated and caught fire. Despite carrying approximately 30 passengers, the driver’s swift action ensured that everybody was evacuated safely. The driver promptly alerted firefighters who also responded immediately.
The video shows the bus engulfed in flames with thick smoke billowing as people watch in horror. Reacting to the video, one user commented, “My friend travels in that bus no response from him till now.” A second user said, “So finally someone got the chance to use that red hammer to break glass of bmtc?”

Meanwhile, a third user wrote, “Are the driver and conductor safe too? I was passing through and saw all news channels’ camera crew panning their camera to the driver’s seat.” A fourth user commented, “Banglore is totally not safe at all.”
According to sources, the bus was from the Koramangala bus depot. The BMTC shared that the quick-thinking driver acted swiftly, evacuating the bus promptly, and ensuring nobody was injured. Senior BMTC officials arrived to investigate the cause of the fire.
