New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani hosted a three-day celebration for his wedding at his family’s estate in Uganda, according to a report by The New York Post.
The 33-year-old Mamdani and his bride, Rama Duwaji, 27, first hosted their engagement and wedding ceremony in Dubai back in December, followed by a civil ceremony in New York City. The latest celebrations took place in Uganda, Mamdani’s birthplace, at the family’s estate located in Buziga Hill, a wealthy suburb of Kampala, the nation’s capital. In a video posted on YouTube on July 21, Mamdani said, “I am in Uganda to visit family and friends.”
Security at the event was reportedly tight, and elite security forces were stationed around the property, and a cellphone-jamming system was in place to maintain privacy during the exclusive, invite-only affair.
“Outside the Mamdani house were more than 20 special forces command unit guards, some in masks, and there was a phone-jamming system set up — and all for the strictly invite-only Mamdani event,” one attendee told The New York Post. “One gate had around nine guards stationed at it,” the source added.
Mamdani moved to the US at age seven and became a citizen in 2018. He is the son of acclaimed Indian filmmaker Mira Nair and renowned Ugandan academic Mahmood Mamdani. He shared a message on social media confirming that he was in Uganda to celebrate his wedding festivities.
