With the IT sector experiencing salary cuts and layoffs, a former Amazon employee recently shared the emotional turmoil of being laid off despite working relentlessly and making personal sacrifices for nearly two decades.

In a heartfelt post on the platform Blind, he shared how years of nonstop hustle had distanced him from the simple joys of life. “I’ve worked nonstop for 17 years. Never took a break, never slowed down. I told myself I was doing it for my family, even when I was too tired to play with my kids or sit down for dinner,” he wrote.

When the layoff email arrived, he said the emotions were overwhelming. “Then came the layoff email. I just broke down and cried. After about an hour, I cleaned myself up and helped my wife cook breakfast and took the kids to school for the first time. Seeing them smile like that hit me hard. Maybe this is what living is?”

Looking for comfort, he shared the news with his wife. “I asked my wife out for coffee at a local cafe and told her. She was surprised but supported me and assured me that we will get through this together as a family. Then I broke into tears again.”

However, he expressed a positive approach towards life. “I don’t know what’s next. Everyone’s been saying the job market is rough. But one thing I know is that I don’t want my life to be like my past 17 years. I want to be able to enjoy what I do not for the sake of it.”

“For those who got laid off, stay strong. This is not the end. Don’t blame yourself,” he concluded the post.

Last month, thousands of Amazon employees were laid off as part of a sweeping restructuring aimed at improving efficiency and focusing on artificial intelligence initiatives.

The post resonated with several users, with one saying, “He has a lot to make up for, this a good reminder that keep life simple.” Another user commented, “Let’s make layoff a norm now and get this opportunity to look back and reclaim what was left behind!”

“I know a lot of hard working people still bring their kids to school, wife to cafe, family dinners etc .. office work is not an excuse to skip your family time,” a third user reacted.
