A woman from Perth, Australia, was left in shock after a pleasant Friday night dinner with her friends burnt a giant hole in her pocket. Reanna Ho was charged a staggering $584.18 (Rs 50,593, approximately) at Canton Lane Chinese restaurant in Australia’s Cloverdale. Ho dined with a group of eight and ordered eight items, including a ‘live lobster’ priced at USD 380 (Rs over Rs 32,000).
According to the New York Post, the staff at the restaurant informed Ho that the price of the live lobster would differ on weight and market price. However, they did not share the specifics of the dish. Ho also claimed that the staff didn’t inform them that the additional servings of noodles would cost $15 (Rs 803) each.
Ho followed up with the restaurant to find out about the lobster’s weight, which was 2.04 kg and was priced at $74 (Rs 6,431, approximately). To her surprise, she wasn’t informed about the same at the time of ordering. “We didn’t assume the lobster would be cheap, but based on common sense, the typical price per pound is usually around $37-$40 (Rs 3,215-Rs 3,750, approximately). Even during the festive period, it seems unreasonable for the price to skyrocket to $75 per pound,” she wrote on Facebook.
The report added that the restaurant’s management acknowledged that the weight and the price of the lobster were not communicated. However, they stood by their actions. Later, the restaurant released a statement detailing the cooking process of a lobster dish. It explained that the lobster’s head is removed before cooking, which has been their standard procedure.
“We do not see the point of wasting the meat of the head just for display purposes. We have been running this restaurant for eight years and have been running it smoothly,” the statement read, as reported by the New York Post.
