With over 2,76,000 views, the photo amassed many reactions from social media users. Reacting to it, a user wrote, “Life is unfair. Few sportsman like Rohit Sharma with 50kg extra weight are still playing and few with 100g are getting eliminated.” Another user commented, “Sports is so cruel. we want justice for our Vinesh Phogat.”
“Stay strong Vinesh. India stands with you. Am done with this olympics. while they allow biological males to compete in women sport and disqualify a women for 100gm over weight,” a third user reacted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X, lauded Phogat’s resilience and wrote, “Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India’s pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian. Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing. At the same time, I know that you epitomise resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head on. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you.”
Phogat had defeated Japan’s Yui Susaki in round 16, Ukraine’s Oksana Livanch in the quarterfinals and Cuba’s Yusleylis Guzman Lopez in the semi-finals.
