Three upcoming Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna, Austria have been cancelled following government confirmation of planned attacks at the location.
An official statement from the organisers informed about the development. “Due to confirmation by the government officials of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three planned shows for everyone’s safety,” the statement read. It also said that the tickets would be automatically refunded within 10 working days.
On Wednesday morning, a 19-year-old Austrian citizen was arrested on suspicion of planning attacks on large events scheduled in Vienna, the BBC reported. The accused had taken “an oath of allegiance” and joined Islamic State this July. A second arrest was made the very afternoon, due to suspicions of continued security threats.
Swift was set to perform at the Ernst Happel Stadium from August 8 to 10. According to reports, the police had expected around 65,000 concertgoers each day. The event was planned as a part of the pop star’s World Eras Tour which began on March 17, 2023, and is set to conclude on December 8, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada.
Last month, over 40,000 Swifties were spotted crowding the Olympic Hill in Munich to listen to Taylor Swift, who was performing at an open-air stadium. According to a report by the Associated Press, fans flocked to the location despite 31 degree Celsius temperature.
