On Tuesday, OpenAI unveiled Sora 2, the latest version of its advanced video and audio generation tool, touted as the “most powerful imagination engine ever built.” Alongside the release, the AI platform also introduced a new Sora app, designed to let users create and share AI-generated content. Although the app remains invite-only, much of its content has already spilled onto other social platforms.
One viral video shows a surreal, satirical scene in which Sam Altman appears to steal Hayao Miyazaki’s artwork from Studio Ghibli’s headquarters. In the clip, Altman grabs a piece of paper and runs, with Miyazaki chasing him through the studio. The video is in reference to OpenAI’s tool that triggered one of the biggest AI trends on the Internet by allowing users to remagine moments and photos as Ghibli’s animation.
Sharing the video, an X handle @PJaccetturoLmao wrote, “Sam Altman stealing art from Miyazaki in the Studio Ghibli HQ. Sora 2 is wilddddddd.”

The video quickly gained traction, sparking a deluge of reactions. “He is now probably the most valuable IP, given that majority of people are now making videos around him only,” a user wrote. “Love all the Altman theft vids from Sora 2. Maybe Sora 2 can show him talking about how he planned to ditch the open source part of OpenAI and make it a for profit company. Because that would be…funny,” another user commented.
“He’s gotta make real Open AI content now, we need to see this side come to life,” a third user reacted.
The Sora app is currently limited to the United States, and available only on iOS.
