It’s Met Gala time. That means the internet is flooded with videos of celebrities strutting their stuff in over-the-top outfits, sparking endless commentary online. Sure, it’s a charity event, but let’s be real, it’s also prime time for some serious outfit judging while lounging in your sweats.
The event takes place on the first Monday of May every year. This year’s theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and the official dress code was “The Garden of Time.”
Among those videos, you will find the viral ones, which aren’t viral yet but people are talking about them. And, of course, we have to! So, that brings us to the moment when singer Tyla ditched water for sand. It was her first time at the Met, and she got a little help from Balmain to make a big statement.
Watch the video below:
According to Vogue, as she took inspiration from the event’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” the Balmain team crafted a dress for Tyla entirely out of sand, symbolising the passing of time. While she was on the iconic steps of the Met Gala red carpet, she also turned to the staff at Met Gala to help her get up the steps, and that’s the video we are talking about. But get this: not for a moment did she leave her pose.
In the video, she had to be picked up by a group of staff members to reach the next few steps. One can guess how heavy and delicate the designs are that she had to be carried up! The video, now viral has social media not only in awe but also a little leaned on the hilarious side of things.
The caption on the video read, “THE MAN CATCHING TYLA BECAUSE SHE CAN’T CLIMB THE STAIRS LOL.” To this, One user wrote, “Add a little water to soften this dress.” Another user joked, “Add a little water to soften this dress.” A third user added, “And she doesn’t leave the pose lollkkk I loved it.”
Another user commented, “How is it getting lifted”, I’m sorry what?!” One more user added, “I hesitate to think of what happens when she needs to use the ladies room.”
The exhibition will display 400 years of fashion, delving into concepts of rebirth and renewal, drawing parallels between nature and the transient nature of fashion.
