In a recent session in the Pakistan parliament, Shibil Faraz, the leader of the Opposition and member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), praised India’s Lok Sabha election process, highlighting the efficiency and transparency of the process and the peaceful nature of power transition. He also mentioned the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and that no one alleged malpractice on that front.
The video of his speech has now gone viral.
In the video, Faraz can be heard saying in Hindi which translated to English says, “I don’t want to quote an example of our enemy country, but elections just happened there. More than 800 million people voted. Lakhs of polling stations were set up. It was a month-long election process with the help of EVM. Was there any ruckus based on election raids? We also want to participate in such an election.”
He also said that the fact that leaders are not ready to accept their lose in elections made Pakistan’s system “hollow”.
The video was shared on X by Pakistani journalist Ghulam Abbas Shah. He wrote, “In the Pakistani Parliament, opposition leader Shibli Faraz praised the Indian electoral process, highlighting how the world’s largest democracy conducted its lengthy elections with EVMs, announced results, and transferred power smoothly without any allegations of fraud. Why can’t we achieve the same?”
