A recruiter’s brutally honest take on hiring has gone viral, earning him praise for his refreshingly unfiltered approach. The buzz started when data scientist Bojan Tunguz shared a screenshot of the recruiter’s message on X, leaving the Internet impressed.
The recruiter’s message started off as a farewell to Tunguz, wishing him well, but quickly took an unexpected turn. Ditching the usual corporate formalities, he got straight to the point, asking if Tunguz knew anyone who might be interested in a “soul-sucking but cushy” finance job—an honest, blunt pitch that stood out.
“Well, I wish you luck in whatever you’re cooking up,” the recruiter wrote, “and if you have any capable peers who have lower standards and are looking for a soul-sucking but cushy finance job, you know where to find me.”
Tunguz, clearly entertained, shared the message with the caption: “An actual message from a recruiter.”

The post has racked up over 76,000 views and sparked a flood of reactions. The Internet loved the bluntness and many applauded the recruiter’s honesty in an industry known for sugarcoating job descriptions.
A user wrote, “Fantastic recruiter, love people who operate off script.” Another user said, “These are the best kind of recruiters though, you know they’ve got your back.”
A third user commented, “That’s gotta be a bot reply parroting back your description of the job. If not, I want to work with this recruiter exclusively.”
A fourth person, however, had a different take on the post. “As someone in a cushy finance job, I had to tell my management that I could not recommend this kind of career to students because of how slowly everything in the field advances,” he wrote.
