Novak Djokovic, the ace tennis player, lived his dream of clinching a gold in Men’s Tennis Singles at the 2024 Paris Olympics by defeating Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday. The 37-year-old broke down moments after he won the medal by 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2).
In a viral video, elated Djokovic could be seen running towards his family. He hugged his daughter and broke down while his family and fans cheered for him. Towards the end of the video, he flaunted the Serbian flag.
Sharing the video, an X user @TommyBeer wrote, “Wow – have never seen Djokovic this emotional … incredible Sports.”

The video got over six million views as sports enthusiasts gathered to congratulate the athlete. Reacting to the heartwarming video, a user wrote, “He waited for this moment 16 years. Wow.” Another user commented, “He stood for sovereign individuality for the whole world. He could not be bought!”

Novak Djokovic became the fifth tennis player after Steffi Graf (1988), Andre Agassi (1999), Rafael Nadal (2010) and Serena Williams (2012) to complete a ‘Career Golden Slam’, a term given to players who have won all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold.
Carlos Alcaraz, on the other hand, was the youngest finalist in the Men’s Singles in the history of the Olympics.
