King Charles’ warm hug with the New Zealand women’s rugby union team—the Black Ferns—at Buckingham Palace is winning hearts on the internet. In the viral video, King Charles was also seen posing for a selfie with the team.
Sharing the video on Instagram, The Black Ferns and The Royal Family collectively wrote, “Hugs for His Majesty.” The video captures New Zealand’s winger Ayesha Leti-I’iga asking the King to share a hug with the team. King Charles immediately agreed and hugged them. “We all wanted a hug, but only if it’s okay with you,” Leti-I’iga asks in the video.
“A hug?Why not?” King Charles replies.

Many social media users hailed King Charles for his gesture. A user commented, “He looked so happy when they all rushed him for a hug. It’s the little things that bring joy.” Another user wrote, “Omg. This made me teary! Black Ferns smashing down hundreds of years of tradition and breaking barriers with one hug. Love love love.”
“After seeing that scene, I would have hugged him too. I’m sending the king a virtual hug,” a third user wrote. “This is a great moment,” another user commented.
According to ANI, The Black Ferns are in the United Kingdom to play against England’s Red Roses on Saturday at Twickenham. Buckingham Palace hosted the New Zealand women’s team.
King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to Australia and Samoa from October 18 to 26 for their Autumn Tour. King Charles will also attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa, ANI reported.
