On September 22, India made history by winning its first gold medals in both the men’s and women’s categories at the Chess Olympiad. In the men’s (open) event, Gukesh D, Praggnanandhaa R, and Arjun Erigaisi secured key victories to clinch the gold. In the women’s event, Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali Rameshbabu, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, and Tania Sachdev won the gold.
Shortly after their victory, a video started circulating online showing the champions dancing to the popular Punjabi song Tunuk Tunuk.
In the clip, shared by ChessBase India, the boys can be seen performing the bhangra step as the music plays, while the girls join in, grooving to the rhythm.
Many X users congratulated the champions. One of them wrote, “Congratulations Team India.” Another user said, “Fantastic victory and celebration.”
A third user agreed with Mahindra, “Absolutely, victory sings loudest in Punjabi, every win feels larger than life, echoing pride and triumph in every syllable.”
Another viral video circulating on social media captures the victorious team celebrating their historic achievement by mimicking Rohit Sharma’s legendary stride while hoisting the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. In the clip, Tania Sachdev and D Gukesh can be seen replicating the walk, each holding their trophies.
