After the widespread destruction due to Hurricane Helene, the United States of America was hit by Hurricane Milton on Tuesday. The calamity moved towards Florida’s battered Gulf Coast as an enormous Category 5 storm, leading to the cancellation of at least 696 flights, a Reuters report said.

As the US gears up to face another hurricane within weeks of the previous one, a video of Hurricane Milton intensifying over the southern Gulf of Mexico as viewed from the International Space Station was shared by a Nasa astronaut on X.

The now-viral video—shared by astronaut Matthew Dominick—captures the dense white clouds hovering over the region, showing the intensity of Hurricane Milton. “Timelapse flying by Hurricane Milton about 2 hours ago. 1/6400 sec exposure, 14mm, ISO 500, 0.5 sec interval, 30fps,” Dominick wrote on X.

The video left the internet stunned, and it amassed over seven million views. A user wrote, “Massive wall of moisture and wind. If this doesn’t convince folks to evacuate, I don’t know what would.” Another user commented, “Hard to wrap your head around the sheer size and power of these storms. Thanks for sharing your perspective!”

“That’s a breathtaking perspective on the immense scale and the distinct eye formation at the center,” a third user wrote. “What a lovely view. Always fascinating to watch and really feel sorry for flat Earthers,” another user wrote.

US President Joe Biden urged residents in Florida to evacuate immediately as a “matter of life and death”. “I want to be clear: As we are preparing for Hurricane Milton, we are also still surging resources to the Southeast and Appalachia to respond to Hurricane Helene. Kamala and I are keeping all of you in our prayers, and we will be there with you as you weather this new storm,” Biden wrote on X.

Hurricane Milton’s wind speeds have slightly decreased but it remains a Category 5 storm, according to the US National Hurricane Center’s most recent advisory.
