Thousands of protesters in Bangladesh entered the residence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official residence soon after her resignation on Monday. Among multiple videos of protestors breaking into her residence, vandalising and looting, a picture of a woman stealing a Dior suitcase took the internet by storm.
In the viral post, the woman can be seen holding the luxury travel bag with a smile on her face. Sharing the photo on X, journalist Pooja Mehta wrote, “Looted a Dior bag from Gono Bhaban.”
Take a look at the post here:
Many social media users criticised the woman and other protesters for looting. Reacting to the viral post, a user commented, “See her joy, like something achieved….” Another user commented, “Unfortunately they are not taught morals by either their mothers or religion.”
“Jackpot mila hai (she won a jackpot),” a third user reacted. “Price of bag is Rs 47,000 in Indian rupees,” another user wrote.
The protesters were also seen eating fish and biryani, while many rested on former PM Hasina’s bed. In one of the videos, protesters were seen stealing television sets, tables, chairs, vandalising the building, live goats, ducks and more.
Protesters also climbed on a large statue of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh’s founder and Sheikh Hasina’s father, trying to destroy it. Several portraits of Mujibur Rahman were vandalised.

Upon resigning, Hasina fled the country and landed at Hindon Airbase in India. The protests began in late June, with students demanding an end to a quota system for government jobs. However, they turned violent after clashes between protesters, police and pro-government activists at Dhaka University.
