Apple iPhone 17 launch: It’s that time of year again. Apple has unveiled its latest iPhones at the much-anticipated ‘Awe-Dropping’ September 9, 2025, launch event, alongside the new AirPods Pro 3 and Apple Watch 11. This year’s lineup introduces four models in the iPhone 17 series: the familiar iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, joined by an all-new addition, the iPhone 17 Air, billed as the thinnest iPhone ever.
“We are raising the bar again,” Apple CEO Tim Cook told the audience at the Steve Jobs Theater. As expected, social media erupted within minutes of the reveal. Memes flooded X and Reddit, ranging from the classic “kidney jokes” to witty takes on Apple’s pricing, upgrade dilemmas, and the ever-relatable reactions to the brand’s latest lineup.
The iPhone 17 gets a notable upgrade this year with a bigger 6.3-inch display. For the first time, Apple is bringing its silky-smooth 120Hz ProMotion technology to a non-Pro iPhone. Buyers will have five colour options to choose from.
The Pro models, meanwhile, mark a design shift. Apple has moved back to aluminium, giving the iPhone 17 Pro its largest battery ever. “Introducing iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, designed from the inside out to be the most powerful iPhone models ever made. At the core of the new design is a heat-forged aluminium unibody enclosure that maximises performance, battery capacity and durability,” Apple said in its announcement.
The iPhone 17 Pro is priced from Rs 1,34,900, while the Pro Max begins at Rs 1,49,900 with 256GB of storage. For the first time, the Pro Max can be configured with up to 2TB of storage. Both devices also feature a ceramic shield back, improved battery life, and a revamped camera system, three 48MP rear lenses plus a smarter, AI-powered “Center Stage” selfie camera.
Apple also unveiled the iPhone 17 Air, which the company is billing as its thinnest iPhone yet at just 5.6mm. It’s powered by the same A19 Pro chip found in the Pro lineup, paired with the N1 networking chip and C1X modem. The Air drops physical SIM support in favour of eSIM-only connectivity. Starting at Rs 1,19,900, the device will be available on September 19 in four shades: Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold and Sky Blue.
