Most Visited Websites in the World: We are living in a digital era where internet usage has become an integral part of daily life, with consistent access to the internet being essential, whether for remote work, social media, or streaming content.
According to Statista, approximately 5.44 billion people, or 67.1% of the global population, now have access to the internet. These users spend an average of six and a half hours online every day, the Global Web Index highlights.
The trend indicates a growing reliance on the internet, with projections suggesting that the number of users could reach 7.9 billion by 2029, as per Forbes. Consequently, website traffic is bound to rise significantly, driven by the expanding user base and the growing integration of digital technologies into daily life.
Data from SimilarWeb reveals that Google.com remains the world’s largest website, capturing an impressive 18.32% of global web traffic. Owned by Alphabet, Google processes over 8.5 billion search queries daily, highlighting its central role in how users find information online.
Following closely is YouTube.com, another Alphabet property that commands a 6.96% share of web traffic, reflecting the increasing popularity of video content consumption across various demographics.
Looking at the most visited websites globally, notably that U.S. companies lead the rankings, with 11 out of the top 15 websites originating from the United States, and notably, two entries from China, Baidu and TikTok, and a prominent Russian search engine, Yandex, maintains a strong position among the leading sites.
Social media platforms play a significant role in this landscape, with Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), WhatsApp, Reddit, and TikTok all ranking among the top 15 websites, exemplifying how these platforms have not only transformed but enabled us in daily communication and social interaction.
Interestingly, ChatGPT.com has also made its mark, ranking 11th most-visited website globally, showcasing the growing usage and popularity of artificial intelligence (AI), while Wikipedia.org stands out as the only non-commercial site in this elite group, emphasising its unique position as a free knowledge resource.
