A man, who was looking after his parent’s house, set it on fire after he tried to kill spiders outside the house in California. According to an ABC 30 report, the Fresno Fire Department stated that the man was house-sitting his parents and used a blowtorch to kill black widows he spotted around the house. No one was injured in the house fire that happened at a house in the Woodward Lake housing development.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the 23-year-old man called the firefighters on Tuesday night after he saw smoke coming from the attic of his parent’s home. He then informed the firefighters that he was using a blowtorch to kill spiders and remove their webs from the bricks of the house exteriors. His parents were not present at home when the incident occurred.
“One of the exterior bricks had a small crack, so the blowtorch’s flame ignited flammable material inside and the fire went straight up into the attic,” Capt Robert Castillo of the Fresno Fire Department told the news website.
“This is definitely not the preferred method to exterminate spiders in and around your home,” Castillo told the news website.
