Meta Quest 3, one of the most popular Augmented Reality headsets between enthusiasts is getting a new update that fixes one of the most annoying issues when using the headset in passthrough mode and introduces two new features that improve the overall user experience.
In a blog post, the company said it is “reducing the amount of visual distortion in Passthrough on Meta Quest 3” so objects are more natural in Mixed Reality. Meta said the update will also “reduce the warping effect around these objects while in motion.” In virtual mode, your hands will look more realistic, making it easier to interact with objects and panels when working in Mixed Reality.
Another huge change comes in the form of an experimental change. Dubbed ‘Wrist Buttons’, the new functionality makes the experience of opening a menu more accessible than before. Once enabled, users will see virtual buttons on their wrists with Meta and Menu icons. The company says these buttons can be used to open or close menus in-game, when using apps or navigating the system.
With v66, Meta says it has changed how background audio works for 2D apps like browsers. The company says the latest update lets users play a video or music and minimise the app without pausing playback. This means users can now multitask and listen to podcasts and songs when playing games or using other apps.
Last month, Meta opened sourced its operating system for Quest VR headsets, allowing third-party developers to make headsets based on Horizon OS, which offers features like “gesture recognition, passthrough, scene understanding and spatial anchors to the devices that run on it”
