When David Miller walked into bat, the match was evenly poised. Gujarat Titans needed 56 runs of 40 balls, and the ball was still seaming around; another wicket could have changed the course of the match. Miller survived a close lbw call against Kuldeep Yadav. He nudged around a few singles and played the waiting game.

Mukesh Kumar came to bowl the sixteenth over and the asking rate crossed nine. Mukesh started well, bowled three good bowls, conceded only three singles, then he committed a mistake and bowled in Miller’s arc, the southpaw rocked back and executed his heave to perfection and the ball sailed over the deep mid-wicket for a six. Kumar went for a wide yorker and bowled it very wide outside off.

The Bengal bowler bowled full again and Miller’s eyes again lit up, and he cleared the mid-on boundary with ease. Next ball, Mukesh presented a gift outside off stump, and Miller nailed through the covers to kill the match right there. Thereafter, it was just a formality as Titans secured their second win on the trot.

It was not the first time Miller had played this role of finisher to perfection. In 10 matches for Gujarat Titans, while chasing, David Miller has amassed 351 runs at a rate of 155.30, including two fifties.

At the post-match press conference, Miller explained why he has been so successful while chasing a target.

“Confidence is a big part to play. It is about doing the same thing, making the correct decisions, not unnecessary panicking too early and keep kind of calculating all the way through,” he told reporters.

In Gujarat Titans’ short history, Miller has already played some clutch knocks. Here’s a look back at his role in Gujarat Titans’ gunning down the targets.
