This is Gill’s 10th Test century overall for India. The 129 not out is Gill’s fifth best score in Tests, with his highest score being the 269 he scored against England in Birmingham. In fact, of his top five knocks in terms of runs, four have come in the last few months, with the top three coming against England away.
This has been one of Gill’s best years in the longest format of the game. In 2025, Gill has crossed 940 runs in 14 innings in Tests at an average of 72.3. He’s maintained a strike rate of 62.29 while scoring one half century as well.
“The last few months have been very exciting for me,” Gill had recently remarked. “I’m really looking forward to what the future has. I want to stay in the present and don’t really want to look back on what I’ve been able to achieve or what we as a team have been able to achieve. (I) just want to look forward and win everything that we have in the upcoming months.”

With Gill’s century, Indian team edged closer to the 500-run mark. Earlier, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had been run out on 175 after a mix-up involving Gill, while Sai Sudharsan had chipped in with a fluent 87. India declared their first innings as soon as Dhruv Jurel fell for 44 while trying to push the strike rate.
India have already won the first Test of the two-Test series against West Indies at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium by an innings and 140 runs.
