India vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20I:

22:14 (IST)10 Jan 2020
The job is done!

Navdeep Saini strikes once again as the job is done by the Men In Blue at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Sri Lanka is bundled up on 123 as India win the contest by 78 runs. With this resounding show, Virat Kohli & co. also, clinch the series 2-0.

22:09 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Navdeep Saini strikes!

Navdeep Saini strikes as India are just one wicket away from winning yet another series. Short and quick enough to end Dhananjaya de Silva's resistance. He tries to cut it but plays it straight to Bumrah at third-man.

22:07 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Stumped!

Sandakan walks out of the crease in search of a big hit but some clever work by both bowler and wicketkeeper make sure that he is sent back to the pavilion on 1.

22:05 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Yuzvendra Chahal in disbelief!

Yuzvendra Chahal in disbelief as he strikes the middle-stump at the non-striker's end to send Hasaranga on a duck. The batsman was jogging so we can say he paid the price for it. Meanwhile, the struggle continues for the visitors as they lose their seventh man.

21:58 (IST)10 Jan 2020
WICKET!

Shardul Thakur grabs a simple catch of his own bowling as Dasun Shanaka departs for 9. The bowler cramps Shanaka for room as he tries to play straight over the bowler's head but ends up scooping it straight into his hands.

21:49 (IST)10 Jan 2020
SL 97/5 after 12 overs

Sri Lanka see out the rest of the over without incident as Sundar reverts to a wicket to wicket line. Sri Lanka need 106 runs off 48 balls.

21:47 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Wicket

India get the breakthrough! Angelo Mathews hit a six first ball of the Sundar over. Went for a big shot next ball too. But the ball was too wide. Might have been signalled as one if he had left it alone. He went for it though. Didn't get any timing. Manish Pandey - he seems to be everywhere tonight - comes under it. Sri Lanka lose their 5th wicket. SL 94/5 after 11.2 overs

21:43 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Fours

Dhanajaya uses Saini's pace to get a four down to third man. Second boundary off the over. India are under just a little bit of pressure because of this partnership. Saini ends the over with a perfect yorker. Blocked. Dot ball. SL 88/4 after 11 overs

21:40 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Saini

Kohli goes back to his pacers. Saini comes in to bowl his third over. Goes for the yorker. Ends up bowling a full toss. Dhananajaya does well to direct the ball into the long off fence. Four!

21:39 (IST)10 Jan 2020
50 run partnership

This stand between Mathews and Dhananjaya is breathing life into this run chase. 11 runs off Chahal's over. Can this pair do the impossible? SL 78/4 after 10 overs

124 runs needed in the next 10 overs. Can SL dare dream?

21:37 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Back to back sixes

Flurry of big shots. Well well, do we have a game on in Pune after all? Last ball of Sundar's over was smashed for a six. Chahal's first ball in the next over is also a six. SL 74/4. India were 90/0 at this stage.

21:34 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Four

Dhananajaya de Silva manages to find the gap. With a thick leading edge. Sri Lanka need all the slices of luck they can get. Mathews ends with another massive shot, Six! 19 runs come off the over. SL 67/4 after 9 overs

21:33 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Big shot

Mathews hits a six to silence the crowd. That is against the run of play. Got down on his knees and smashed it on the leg side. 86 metre six. Gives this run chase some much needed boost. Sri Lanka cross the 50-mark.

21:32 (IST)10 Jan 2020
9 runs off Chahal's over

Good over for Sri Lanka. 9 runs come off it. SL 48/4 after 8 overs

At this stage, India were 75/0. That should make for sobering reading for the away team.

21:28 (IST)10 Jan 2020
4 runs off Sundar's over

2 runs to end the over. Good start from Sundar, just 4 runs come off the 7th over. SL 39/4 after 7 overs and struggling to keep up with India. Time for Yuzvendra Chahal's first over of the series. He is in the running to become India's highest wicket taker in this format. As in Bumrah of course in this ongoing race.

21:25 (IST)10 Jan 2020
SL 35/4 after 6 overs

Dhanajaya de Silva hits another boundary to end the 6th over. Has to be said India are in complete control of this match though. Saini's yorker to Kusal Perera just drove that point home. India's pacers have done a commendable job in the first powerplay. Washington Sundar brought on in the 7th over. Sri Lanka's spinner broke the momentum of the Indian innings in the first half of the match. How will India's spinners fare?

21:21 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Dhananjaya de Silva enters

Dhananjaya de Silva comes in at No.6. Saini welcomes with a wide ball. Umpire obliges by stretching his hands. Dhananjaya de Silva hits a four off the next ball. Beautifully driven through the gaps. That races away for four.

21:19 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Bowled! Navdeep Saini strikes

Saini strikes with the first ball of the 6th over. Kusal Perera's stumps are shattered. He is gone for 7 off 10 balls. Saini is ecstatic. Sri Lanka 4 down now. 26/4 after 5.1 overs

21:18 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Four from Mathews

11 runs come off the 5th over bowled by Shardul Thakur. One four for Perera, one for Mathews. Much better from Sri Lanka's pespective. SL 26/3 after 5 overs

They need 176 runs in 90 balls. It's a tough ask, but if Sri Lanka can come up with a Hetmyer-esque charge, this could be brought down to achievable proportions pretty soon.

21:16 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Boundary

Kusal Perera gets one in his arc. Full delivery from Shardul. Swatted over the infield and into the long on boundary. Kusal Perera has shown how capable a batsman he is in recent times. Mathews has years of experience behind him. If there is any chance of a recovery from this stage, it has to be these two who have to raise their hands.

21:12 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Angelo Mathews

Mathews comes in at 5. Five Sri Lankan batsmen have been on show today already. None of them have managed to go to double digits. Mathews, incidentally, has a batting average of 78 in T20Is in India. That's a stunning stat, we shall see soon if he can pull off a stunning recovery from here on. Mathews has played four dot balls so far. Perera at the other end, has also played four dot balls. Sri Lanka seem to be in shock. Bumrah bowls a maiden over. SL 15/3 after 4 overs

21:08 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Sri Lanka struggle continues

Third wicket! Run out! Oshada Fernando the man to go. Pandey the man who does it. The run chase has gotten off on the worst possible note. Sri Lanka are 15/3 after 3.1 overs

21:01 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Shardul gets into business in his very first over!

Things are getting easy for India as Shardul Thakur gets into business in his very first over.  Avishka Fernando departs for 9. The previous delivery by Thakur was hit for a six and the bowler adjusts his length in the next ball, which earns him the wicket. Avishka plays a lofted drive which ends up in the hands of Shreyas Iyer at cover point. SL: 11/2 (1.3 overs)

20:58 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Short ball does the trick!

Short ball does the trick as Jasprit Bumrah strikes in his first over. Danushka Gunathilaka departs for 1. A short delivery, which came quick to the batsman and Gunathilaka tries to pull it down towards the onside. However, the ball takes a leading edge and flies straight to Washington Sundar at mid-on. SL: 5/1 (1 overs)

20:52 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Lankan chase begins!

Avishka Fernando and Danushka Gunathilaka walk out in the middle to start the Lankan chase. Jasprit Bumrah will start the attack for the Men In Blue.

20:41 (IST)10 Jan 2020
India finish at 201/6

What a finish! It looked like Sri Lanka had the upper hand when those 4 quick wickets fell and Kohli and Pandey were struggling to time the ball. But then Kohli came alive, and even though he was run out, his attitude rubbed off on Pandey, and Shardul Thakur, who came in at 8, as India manage a strong finish. Sri Lanka need to chase 202 to win this.

20:39 (IST)10 Jan 2020
India up to 199

Pandey hits a four to take India to 199. Last ball coming up.

20:38 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Four!

Smashed over covers. Guess who? Shardul Thakur again. Sri Lanka will be thinking they would have prepared for Kohli, Iyer, Rahul, but Shardul Thakur has come out of the syllabus.

20:37 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Shardul! Six!

Shardul Thakur hits another maximum! What a surprise package he has been with the bat in recent matches for India. 190/6 with 4 balls remaining. 200 looks achievable, with Thakur in this mood.

20:35 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Yorker

Malinga finishes off with a yorker. Never underestimate experience. Batsmen scamper through for a single, which means Pandey is at the non striker's end as the last over starts. Will be bowled by Lahiru Kumara. India 182/6 after 19 overs

20:33 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Pandey connects

Two beautiful shots from Manish Pandey. He has to take charge of this final assault. Cuts with power and timing. Ball rushes to the fence. Tracer bullet! Takes a single off the 5th ball. Last ball has Shardul on strike. Big shot incoming!

20:32 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Shardul hits Malinga for 6

Shardul Thakur's batting heroics are becoming a tale of legend. With a bat that has no sponsor, he smashes Lasith Malinga- one of the best bowlers of the generation - for a six over his head first ball of the over. Goes for a heaved shot second ball too. Terrible timing. Ball lands between two fielders.

20:30 (IST)10 Jan 2020
IND 167/6 after 18 overs

Last 2 overs remaining. Shardul Thakur and Manish Pandey in there. India would have preferred a Kohli or an Iyer in there at this point, but the score is good already. 180 is a par score at this venue and on this pitch. How many more runs can the last 2 overs yield?

20:28 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Shardul Thakur in at 8

The lack of composure shown by the Indian team has been concerning today. Not least of all Kohli, who lost his wicket in going for a run that never was. Pandey sees off the hat-trick ball without incident.

20:27 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Wicket, again!

Washington Sundar is pout for a first ball duck. Wickets are falling fast. Sundar went for the upper cut but found the fielder. India 164/6 after 17.4 overs

Lahiru Kumara is on a hat-trick.

20:27 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Wicket, again!

Washington Sundar is out for a first ball duck. Wickets are falling fast. Sundar went for the upper cut but found the fielder. India 164/6 after 17.4 overs

Lahiru Kumara is on a hat-trick.

20:24 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Run out

Suicidal! What a bad decision! There was never a run there. Kohli is gone, and for his own fault. He pushed Pandey for a double. Pandey knew there was no two in it and he hesitated. Kohli continued. Kohli ran fast. Not fast enough to reach the crease before the throw came in. Kohli is run out for 26 off 17 balls.

20:23 (IST)10 Jan 2020
4 for Pandey

Pandey crashes it on the leg side to start off the 18th over. One drop and over the ropes. This stand now worth 40 and rising fast. 16 runs came off the 17th over bowled by Mathews. How many will this one yield?

20:22 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Kohli raises his gear

This partnership is worth 30 runs now. After the opening partnership, it is this stand that has brought back some semblance of sanity to this innings after 4 quick wickets threatened to derail the innings. Now though, Kohli looks to have hit some scary form. He is picking off Angelo Mathews deliveries for fun. A full toss is smashed for four on the leg side. India 158/4 after 17 overs

20:19 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Six!

What a shot! Kohli hits what could be the best shot of the innings so far. Angelo Mathews in to bowl the 17th over and he is dispatched with disdain over his head. Maximum runs!

20:17 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Ones and twos

1s and 2s the order of the day as Kohli and Pandey ready for the final assault. Just 4 runs off the over. Has to be said, after KL Rahul's initial surge, nobody has been able to find the sweet spot on the bat. India 142/4 after 16 overs

20:16 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Hasaranga

Hasaranga, who got Sanju Samson with his wrone one, is back to bowl the 16th over. And he starts off the 16th over with a wrong one as well. Negotiated well by Pandey.

20:13 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Kohli gets his first 4 as well

And Virat Kohli is off as well. Hits a lofted shot off Sandakan, who has taken 3 of the 4 wickets. Manish Pandey then hits  a lofted shot. Which luckily lands in no man's land. Not much timing on that either. IND 138/4 after 15 overs

20:11 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Pandey is off

Pandey gets his first boundary. Not the best of timing on that but he finds the gap through the covers. India 130/4 after 14 overs

How much more can the team add in the next 6 overs?

20:10 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Time for sanity

Kohli and Pandey are looking to bring back some sanity to this innings. After the opening partnership got India off, the middle order has been guilty of too rash cricket today. Kohli and Pandey, both on 2 each, will want to take this innings to the end. The score is already a good one, India will want to take this score to 180 or therabouts. Vital that these two batsmen - the last 2 specialist batsmen - stay on for another 3-4 overs at least. IND 126/4 after 13.5 overs

20:06 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Kohli in at 6

Kohli, for the second time in his career, is playing at No.6 for India. He joins Pandey in the middle. India 123/4 after 13 overs

20:06 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Out

Would you belive that? Shreyas Iyer is out! For a 2-ball 4. Is there a problem of strategy for the Indian middle order today? Iyer, after that great shot off the first ball, offers the worst shot of the match probably so far. Dolly of a catch for Sandakan, the bowler. Nobody can believe how soft that dismissal was.

20:04 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Iyer in at 5

Shreyas Iyer comes in at No.5 to join Pandey and he gets off the mark in fine fashion. Gets a juicy short ball outside off stump and he obliges with a slashing cut for four.

20:03 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Stumping

Has KL Rahul been stumped? Yes he has! He is not very happy with himself. Rahul dragged his feet but could not do enough. And he has to go for 54. India lose a third wicket. India 118/3

India have lost 3 wickets in the space of the last 2 overs, after not having lost a single wicket in the first 10 overs

20:02 (IST)10 Jan 2020
50 for Rahul

Rahul gets to his 50 and celebrates by smashing a four down the ground next ball. That shot almost took Pandey's head off with it. Pandey had to duck and he just managed to duck in the nick of time.

20:00 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Pandey in at No.4

Good to see Kohli dropping himself down the order so that Samson and Pandey get chances to bat for a long time. Samson was livid with himself after going out for a 2-ball 6. Manish Pandey is off the mark with a single. KL Rahul is approaching his 50. India 112/2 after 12 overs

19:58 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Sanju Samson's innings lasts 2 balls

Sanju Samson was playing his first match for India since 2015. He started off with a first ball six. But his innings is a short one. He is out lbw off the second ball. Deceived by the wrong one from Hasaranga. Decides against going for the review. India 106/2

19:54 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Great innings by Dhawan comes to an end!

Lakshan Sandakan finally breaks the 97-run opening stand between Dhawan and Rahul as the former departs right after completing his 50.

19:52 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Dhawan means business today!

An uppish delivery pitched right outside the crease wide of off stump and Dhawan opens the face of his bat and punches it straight to deep extra cover for a single. With this, the Team India "Gabbar" also brings up his tenth fifty in T20I cricket.

19:43 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Aakash Chopra on the show so far!

Aakash Chopra analyses the contest

19:32 (IST)10 Jan 2020
END OF POWERPLAY!

Dhawan and Rahul provide India with a solid start as they duo add 63/0 at the end of six overs. Dhawan is batting on 30 from 17 deliveries, while his partner Rahul has scored 30 off 19.

19:27 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Dhawan survives once again!

An uppish delivery by Malinga, which takes the outside edge of Dhawan's bat and races to the boundary as he survives once again. However, the ball was in the air and fine too, giving the keeper a slight chance of caught behind had he gone for the dive.

19:22 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Dhawan, Rahul score at ease!

Both Dhawan and Rahul are taking their chances and are executing their shots from the middle of the bat. Rahul has so far scored 24 from 13 deliveries, while Dhawan is batting on 12 off 11. IND: 39/0 (4 overs)

19:12 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Dhawan dropped early!

A tough chance to grab but it would have been a lot easier had the fielder been a little deep towards the square leg area. Shanaka was the fielder involved as he gets to the ball and leaps to grab it but unfortunately, the height works in Dhawan's favour. A great opportunity wasted by Sri Lanka.

19:07 (IST)10 Jan 2020
Things look promising for the hosts!

After five tight deliveries, KL Rahul finally slams a boundary in the final ball of the first over by Malinga. Things look promising for the hosts as India reach 9/0 at the end of first over.
