India vs Bangladesh Highlights, 2nd Test Day 4: BAN: 26/2 at Stumps on Day 4; Ashwin strikes twice, fifties from Jaiswal and Rahul

Ashwin continues from the other end. Hasan Mahmud gets down on one knee for an attempted sweep/pull but misses the line and makes a mess of his stumps. Ashwin gets his second wicket as the nightwatchman's stay is cut short. Bangladesh, 26/2 as centurion from the first innings Mominul Haque walks into the middle.

Shadman Islam gets lucky for the second time this innings. Another outside edge, this time off Akash Deep, and it carries to KL Rahul in the cordon but he's unable to grab hold of it in a one-handed low attempt. Bangladesh, 26/1.

Ravinchandran Ashwin pings Zakir Hasan on the pads and the umpire has raised his finger. But Bangladesh will refer it. It was one of those drifts-in-turns-away delivery again from the off-spinner and it whiskered past the outside edge of the southpaw's front foot defence before pinging his thigh pad. No bat involved, three reds, and it's out. Bangladesh lose their first wicket. 22/1 after eight overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin to Zakir Hasan, fractionally short, and the southpaw rocks back in his crease and pulls it down deep square leg for four. First boundary for Hasan. After six overs, Bangladesh are 18/0. 

Ravi Ashwin to Zakir Hasan, straying down the leg stump and it brushes his pads on its way down fine leg for four. 

Later in the over, Shadman Islam is dropped! Coming from round the wicket, Ashwin drifts the ball in, before it turns slightly away to induce an outside edge and a diving Rohit Sharma is unable to grab hold of the ball. After four overs, Bangladesh are 9/0.

Spin introduced from the other end. Ravichandran Ashwin. Zakir Hasan negotiates a single to open Bangladesh's account. 

Ashwin appeals for lbw against Shadman Islam but the umpire isn't interested. India go upstairs but lose a review as Shadman's stride is too big. 2/0 after two overs.

What a day, huh! It's still going on, captain.

So, just in case you missed it, Bangladesh began the day batting at 107/3 in their first innings. They were dismissed for 233 in the second session. And now, as we move close to Stumps, Bangladesh are back again to bat. 

Jasprit Bumrah into the attack. Steams in and bowls a maiden, just like that, his bread and butter really.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz claims his fourth wicket. Two dismissals off one over. First, KL Rahul, looking to find another boundary advances down the ground but misses out on the delivery and is stumped.

Akash Deep goes for another big hit but is holed at wide long on, and Indian captain Rohit Sharma signals for declaration. India have called it a day at 285/9 with still some time left in the day but not as much to bowl the remaining 19 overs - keeping up with the plan of 98 through the day. A quick break for the two teams before Bangladesh come out to bat, again.

Shakib Al Hasan to Ravichandran Ashwin, length ball and the latter makes room to maneouvre it through the off side but misses it altogether. Fourth wicket for Shakib. 

New batter in is Akash Deep, and he's come with a clear approach in his mind. A big slog sweep attempted off the next ball is missed. But off the next two deliveries, the Indian pacer smokes it for consecutive sixes. India, 284/7 after 34 overs.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz to Ravindra Jadeja, the length is dragged back and the latter shimmies down the track to play a low defense but the ball hits the pad and ricochets off the bat on its way to the fielder at cover. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto takes a straightforward catch. India lose their sixth wicket. 

Typically when you picture KL Rahul playing for India in the longest format, you picture a batter playing the waiting game at its best. Someone who can wait for the odd loose balls and latch onto those for his boundaries, while being patient in his approach.

Today though, he has took the initiative to take the attack to the bowlers, as India have done from the word get go today. As Hasan Mahmud goes short, there is no second invite needed before rolling his wrists for a swivel pull. It earns him four runs. When Mahmud goes full, Rahul clears his front leg and launches the ball over long-on. 15 runs from the over, India are 264/5.

Shakib Al Hasan to Virat Kohli, a big swipe from the latter and he's missed the ball altogether as it cashes into his stumps. Drifted in nicely and it kept low as well. India lose their fifth wicket. 

It's Ravindra Jadeja, who joins KL Rahul in the middle. After 30 overs, India are 249/5.

Half-century numbr 15 for KL Rahul!

What a mighty fine knock this has been. A lot's been said about his place in the XI but he's surely risen to the occasion and the team's pace of scoring. This, his fastest half-century in the format. After 29 overs, India are 246/5.

Shakib Al Hasan hit for 15 runs in his latest over. 

After a Virat Kohli cut shot through backward point for four, KL Rahul administers a reverse sweep before smashing one through mid wicket for as many runs. Fifty partnership up between this duo. India cruising through the day, 219/4 after 26 overs.

RECORD ALERT!

After fastest fifty, India have also bested the record for fastest 200 by a team in Test history. This, off just 24.2 deliveries - the previous best record being 28.1 overs by Australia against Pakistan in 2017. 

It was Kohli, who brought up the 200 with a six off Taijul Islam, lofted straight back over the bowler's head. 204/4 after 25 overs.

Shakib Al Hasan continues from the other end. Tosses one up to KL Rahul, who sweeps it hard in front of square. Really confident in reaching out to the ball, that ease in playing spin is what the Indian captain had credited him for ahead of the series. Didn't have the best of times in Chennai, can he make the most of the conditions and the advantage India has to accumulate big runs here? After 21 overs, India are 184/4.

Khaled Ahmed to the new Indian batter in the middle, KL Rahul. Back of a length delivery with width on offer, and Rahul makes good use of his back foot to play a lovely late cut stroke down backward point for four.

Then, a juicy delivery outside off, and Virat Kohli can't resist. He advances down the track, looking to loft it over extra cover, but instead edges it. On most days, someone in the slip cordon would catch that but not today. The field has been spread out after the early onslaught from the Indian batters and lucky for Kohli, there is no one stationed down third man, so he gets four runs for that thick edge. India, 173/4.

Shakib Al Hasan has his second wicket. After Gill, the all-rounder manages to lure Rishabh Pant into going for a big shot, only to find the fielder in the deep. Pant, looking to clear the ropes, is unable to get under the ball and finds the fielder at long on. India lose their fourth wicket. 162/4 after the 20 over mark.

An eventful over to say the least from Khaled Ahmed. A massive miscommunication between Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli, and the latter has to cover almost half of the pitch to get back to the non-striker's end. Khaled Ahmed could've just run to the stumps and taken off the bails but instead, decides to have a throw and misses to find the target. A lifeline for Kohli early in his innings. He finds consecutive boundaries to steady himself - a majestic cover drive included. Then, off the final delivery, Rishabh Pant is also short of his crease but Bangladesh miss on a direct hit. 158/3 after 19 overs.

Virat Kohli is the new man in. Shakib Al Hasan gets from over the wicket to Rishabh Pant, who goes for a reverse sweep but misses the line as the ball flushes him on the pads. Loud lbw appeal from Shakib but the umpire isn't interested. Bangladesh go upstairs. 

The replay shows the ball just caught the faintest of edges on its way to hitting the pad. After 18 overs, India are 145/3.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant back in the middle for the last session of the day. 

And Bangladesh have another breakthrough. Shakib Al Hasan to Shubman Gill, stump line, turns just slightly away from the right hander, who goes for a lofted shot but is caught at long off by Hasan Mahmud. Wicket number 243 for Shakib Al Hasan in Test cricket. India, 141/3.

Loud appeal from Shakib as he darts a delivery well outside the off-stump. Pant attempts a slash away from his body and the bowler and wicket-keeper go up in excitement for a caught-behind. Umpire Kettleborough raises the finger soon enough and India review instantly. Clear daylight there between bat/ball and Pant will hold his ground. India move to Tea after 16 overs of batting, raising 138 runs at the expense of the openers. The run rate reading 8.62!

WICKET! A hundred not to be for Jaiswal. Hasan Mahmud brings the ball in sharply and gets to rush through Jaiswal's defences. The ball knocks down the middle-stump off an inside-edge and the Indian opener's stellar knock ends. Surprise, surprise. Virat Kohli won't be in at 4 today. It's Rishabh Pant!

Shakib Al Hasan is into the attack now. He's not had a great run with the ball. Will India get that much more attacking now? Gill launches an early paddle as Shakib errs in line and finds a FOUR  in his first over.

Jaiswal has gotten himself a bit of a breather and Shubman Gill enters the fray. He steps out to a flighted delivery from Mehidy Hasan and belts it high over deep mid-wicket for SIX!

India rewrite the record for the fastest Test team 100 in 10.1 overs! They have bettered their own record from 2023 when they crossed 100 in 12.2 overs against the West Indies.

Jaiswal is swatting Mehidy through cover with some muscle. He follows a ferocious cut with a smite that sends the ball speeding through cover for another FOUR. He has not let go of the aggressions despite Rohit's dismissal. India are in with a clear plan here.

First change in the attack as Bangladesh resort to spin in only the fourth over. Rohit does not care as he heaves Mehidy Hasan through mid-wicket for FOUR. A slider from Mehidy hits the pads and Rohit misses out on the flick. The umpire raises the finger but the review suggests that the ball has clearly missed the stumps. WICKET! Rohit falls next ball. Some sharp turn for Mehidy this time as the ball keeps low to castle Rohit. He is cleaned up this time after providing a sensational start for India. Some respite for Bangladesh too.

Ravi Shastri is ecstatic in the commentary box and why wouldn't he be? This is a near-unprecedented assault from India against the new ball. Jasiwal smashes Hasan over extra cover for a SIX and follows up with two FOURs - India cross 50 in three overs! The fastest in Test history!

Sheer disdain from Rohit Sharma. He pumps Hasan down the ground for another SIX, shortly after the Bangladesh fielders missed out on his gentle toe-edge to the keeper. Mehidy was the only one who had spotted that and appealed but the skipper did not attempt a review. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal makes the intentions very clear as he smears Hasan Mahmud through cover, the V and point for consecutive fours in the opening over. If that weren't enough, Rohit Sharma has gotten off the blocks by charging Khaled Ahmed for a six over long-on. He follows up with a bumper and Rohit smashes it over square-leg for a huge SIX!

Back to action. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are out in the middle. Hasan Mahmud takes the new ball. How quick will the openers go with a 233-run deficit hanging over them?

Jadeja to Khaled, OUT! That's number 300 for Jadeja!  A simple caught and bowled. Probably, one of the easiest he's ever had in a stellar career. Jadeja becomes the seventh Indian to reach the 300-wicket mark.

India have tightened the noose on Mominul Haque, leaving him with minimal options to add runs from here. Bumrah skims through a spotless over, attacking the stumps every ball. Mominul attempts to tap one through point but the field has prevented him from finding that single to retain strike. Can India seal it in the next over?

WICKET! Siraj foxes Hasan Mahmud with the wobble seam, angling in. The ball pitches on length and cuts in sharply to hit the pads. No doubts for the umpire as he raises the finger. Bangladesh review but that goes down with the ninth wicket. India wasting no time whatsoever after Lunch.

WICKET! Easy for Bumrah. He gets the old ball to jag back subtly as he zips the ball through Taijul's defences. The off-stump is pegged back and India are wrapping up the tail quickly.

WICKET FOR BUMRAH! After nearly snapping Mehidy Hasan with the inside-edge towards the stumps, Bumrah's loosener outside the off-stump was dispatched to the fence with a sumptuous back-foot square drive. It was a matter of getting the length right and it hardly took Bumrah any time before he induced a thick outside-edge to the slip fielder.

Mohammed Siraj will continue in the attack. Mehidy returns to the crease. A silly mid-on and mid-wicket are in place for the right-hander. A couple of straight deliveries tapped back and Siraj slants one down to the pads. Mehidy gets a leg-bye. Short delivery outside the off-stump and Mehidy cashes in on the width, smearing the ball through point for FOUR.

The players are back out on the field. Pivotal session for India to see and force things back their way. The draw seems to be the most likely result here. Rohit's side would have done something phenomenal by tomorrow evening if they turn this around from here.

Ravi Ashwin to Mominul Haque, swept hard down deep backward square leg for four. HUNDRED FOR THE BANGLADESH NUMBER 3!

He bows down to the green of Green Park, a special century this against the run of play. 200 up for Bangladesh in the first innings. And that's where the session will end. India have struck thrice in the session, which included a Jasprit Bumrah peach, and two stunning one-handed catches from Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Siraj. But, Bangladesh will be proud of the way Mominul Haque has remained firm in his approach. As the two teams make their way back to the dressing room, the score reads 205/6. 

Mohammed Siraj to Mominul Haque, a length ball that's slanted across the off stump and Mominul Haque has no choice but to put his bat in the way. It takes a leading edge and Virat Kohli at first slip dives to his left but it escapes his grasp. Would've been an easier catch for a second slip, which wasn't there for it. 199/6 after 65 overs.

Alright, so a bit of an unplanned pause in Kanpur as the Bangladesh physio is in the middle for Mehidy Hasan Miraz. 'He has been stung by a bee,' says Murali Karthik on-air. That's got to hurt.

Meanwhile, Mominul Haque brings some respite to the visitors, as he dispatches Jadeja for a maximum! That was tossed up and right in the slot for a batter, who's been in the middle for 164 deliveries now. Moves into the 90s now. 195/6, Bangladesh.

Now it's Ashwin who is at the receiving end off successive boundaries from Mominul Haque. 

First up, a sweep shot through square leg by getting on top of the bounce, then a pull shot off a delivery that strays a little too much down the leg side. 10 runs come from the 60th over. Bangladesh are 187/6.

New batter in is Mehidy Hasan Miraz. He gets lucky early in his innings, chopping a Ravindra Jadeja delivery off the toe end of the bat for a four. 

Ravichandran Ashwin then, teases him with the drift and beats him on the outside edge. India appeal for a stumping, it's reviewed, but Mehidy's back foot is grounded in time. Bangladesh are 176/6.

Ravichandran Ashwin strikes, but it's a wicket that'd be remembered more for Mohammed Siraj. 

Shakib Al Hasan goes for a lofted drive, Siraj makes a run for it from mid-off - running backwards - and takes a leap to complete a one-handed grab, landing on his back. Two superb catches from India in the session and that's wicket number three for the hosts since this morning. After 57 overs, Bangladesh are 175/6.

With Mominul Haque not shying away from eyeing boundaries despite half of the Bangladesh batting back in the dressing room, Shakib Al Hasan takes his cue. Tries to drive a Siraj fuller length delivery but misses out on the trajectory as the ball straigtens right towards the end. 

As Siraj goes full again later in the over, Shakib plays along the line and this time finds a boundary - his first of the innings. A lot of the eyeballs around the star Bangladesh all-rounder in the lead up to the Test, can he revive this innings from here? Bangladesh, 164/5.

Shakib Al Hasan is the new batter in for Bangladesh. But it is Mominul Haque, who's taking the attack to the Indian bowlers, had dispatched Ravindra Jadeja a little while ago for back-to-back fours. Now it's Mohammed Siraj who's at the receiving end, courtesy of some poor fielding display. First up, a short of a length delivery is pulled down deep square leg by the southpaw and KL Rahul in the deep is unable to cut it in time. Both skipper Rohit Sharma and Siraj unhappy with the effort. 

Next ball is back of a length again, and Mominul meets it with the pull shot but Shubman Gill misses out on a regulation stop. 150 up for Bangladesh. 160/5 after 53 overs.

WHAT A CATCH!

Mohammed Siraj anticipates Litton Das's aggressive intent and dishes in a fuller delivery. The latter advances down the track, looking to clear the ball over covers, but Rohit Sharma - stationed at the edge of the 30-yard circle - lifts off and nabs it with his right hand. A superb one handed catch that and India have another breakthrough. Bangladesh are five wickets down at 149.

Ravindra Jadeja into the attack from the other end. Mominul Haque takes the attack to the left-arm orthodox. A sweep down fine leg followed by a slog sweep in the vacant mid-wicket region for successive boundaries. He's looked solid in the middle. After 49 overs, Bangladesh are 148/4.

It was only a matter of time, Mohammed Siraj comes into the attack. Bangladesh opt for a review as Mominul Haque is caught near short leg. The question is: did it come off the bat or thigh pad. Snicko indicates flat line as the ball passes by the bat/glove. Not out it is. 

Mominul gets his half-century with a boundary. Short of a length delivery from Siraj, pulled down square leg for four. Bangladesh, 138/4.

Akash Deep with a short of a length delivery and Mominul Haque switches the weight onto his back foot to get on top of the bounce and pull it down square leg - three runs collected. It's followed by a front-foot no ball. There's actually decent bit of bounce on offer. A couple of deliveries beyond the 6m mark have surprised Litton Das - one from Bumrah, one from Akash Deep. 132/4 after 44 overs.

Akash Deep pitches fractionally short and gives just the hint of width and Mominul Haque, who has been in the middle longest among the Bangladeshi batters in this Test, cuts it with soft hands for his first boundary of the day. No shades of luck here. The stance was rock solid and the shot, well timed.

A packed slip cordon in place for Bumrah. And Litton Das takes the Indian speedster on front foot straightaway. First ball is full and outside off and Das, drives it for four with ease. A delivery later, Bumrah goes good length and Das exhibits and even better strokework through covers for four. Another one comes in but bounces over the stumps. Next up, a delivery on the pads and Das flicks it for a third boundary in the over. Bangladesh, 128/4 after 43 overs.
