Even as news of intrusion by the Chinese army into Arunachal Pradesh continues to be a matter of concern,a 28-year-old youth who had crossed the international boundary and trespassed into Anjaw district in the frontier state has not only caused a flutter, but has dismayed officials currently interrogating him.

The youth, who claimed his name to be Guan Liang, was arrested near Sunpora under Tezu police station in Lohit district on May 18 and is being interrogated, apart from the state police,by officials of the Home Ministry as well as Army intelligence.

“Yes. It is confirmed that he is a Chinese national. But why exactly he sneaked into India and whether he is a spy is yet to be ascertained,” T Ringu,SP in the special branch of the Arunachal Pradesh Police, told The Indian Express from Itanagar on Wednesday. Ringu also said sleuths from the Home Ministry and Army intelligence were already in Tezu.

Meanwhile,a senior official at Tezu said the Chinese youth had claimed he worked in a French restaurant in Beijing and that he had to flee after he had sent some “objectionable” mails to the government.

Meanwhile, reports from Itanagar quoting the Chinese youth said he wanted asylum in India.
