After shutting disproportionate assets probe against Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav,the CBI Tuesday decided not to pursue its investigation into a case against BSP supremo Mayawati. The agency claimed that the decision was taken after receiving legal opinion on the Supreme Court orders on the issue.
Agency sources also claimed that it was deliberated that amount of DA in case of Mayawati was minuscule to pursue and much time has passed since the case was first registered by CBI. It was also discussed that time has elapsed to firm up the evidences in the case, said a CBI official. The agency said that after the Supreme Court dismissed the intervention application in August this year,the legal opinion was taken.
During the legal scrutiny,it was decided to file a closure in the DA case against Mayawati. According to CBI,the legal experts felt that if anyone wants a probe,he can approach an appropriate court to get a suitable order with which the CBI would comply.
On August 8,the apex court had dismissed a petition filed by Uttar Pradesh resident Kamlesh Verma who was an intervener in the case filed by Mayawati for quashing the DA case against her.
While reserving its verdict on May 1,the Bench had said that the FIR in the DA case was quashed because CBI proceeded against her without properly understanding its orders which were confined to the Taj Corridor case. However,it had said that the judgment had not taken away CBIs power to proceed against her in a separate DA case.
