R Madhavan has always come across as one of the most grounded and versatile actors in Indian cinema. But beneath the calm surface lies a passionate adventurer with a curious soul, and in an old interview with Ranveer Allahbadia (BeerBiceps) on TRS Clips, he opened up about his hobbies, indulgences, and the most expensive thing he’s ever purchased.
“I bought a yacht,” Madhavan casually revealed during the chat, surprising many fans. He went on to explain the story behind the luxury splurge: “I bought it because I always wanted to take a captain’s license and during COVID I had nothing better to do, so I sat at home and gave my exam. It took me 6 months. So now I’m a licensed captain who can sail a 40-foot yacht or a boat.”
The actor elaborated that it wasn’t just about the luxury; it was a dream fulfilled, a long-standing item on his bucket list. “Just to scratch that and take it off my bucket list, I bought a yacht and I enjoy it thoroughly… it’s a beautiful place for me. I can take it out to the sea and I park overnight, and I look at the dolphins fly around as I write my stories.”
Madhavan’s yacht is docked in Dubai, and yes, he takes it out alone sometimes, thanks to his official captain’s license. But it’s not just a solo experience: “It gives me maximum pleasure when all my friends come and they treat it as their own… and Sarita taking her friends out and doing it. It has given us a lot of pleasure.”
What makes this revelation even more refreshing is the humility with which he speaks about wealth and indulgence. He isn’t into flaunting expensive dinners or designer wines: “I won’t go and have a 3 lakh bottle of wine for sure or spend 6 lakhs on a dinner… My middle-class tendency doesn’t allow it.”
